According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) on October 18, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), chaired a meeting in Islamabad directing law enforcement authorities to escalate their crackdowns on illegal call centers, financial fraud, and other cyber offenses. Meeting with officials including Muhammad Shoaib Khan, Deputy Director of the Islamabad zone, Rizvi evaluated ongoing operations and instructed departments to enhance investigative efficiency to achieve concrete results.
Rizvi instructed officers to carry out thorough inspections of call centers suspected of unlawful activity, emphasizing that all individuals involved in their management must face strict legal action on an equal basis once definitive evidence is established. He also underlined that shielding the public from financial and online fraud remains a priority, ordering teams to improve inter-departmental coordination and accelerate the resolution of pending cases and public complaints. Official reports have not yet revealed any new arrests tied directly to this session.
Over the past several months, authorities in major hubs such as Karachi and Lahore have repeatedly targeted unauthorized call center operations. Amid persistent crackdowns across Southeast Asia, some fraud and gray-market syndicates may possibly be seeking to shift operations toward South Asia. However, with Pakistani agencies steadily stepping up enforcement, operating in these hubs could carry rapidly escalating legal and operational risks.
