The Philippines and Indonesia have reached a consensus to step up joint operations against online scam hubs, human trafficking, and other transnational crimes, while coordinating more closely on visa management, immigration supervision, and border controls. The two nations held their 4th Joint Consular Consultations on October 14 in Pasay City, with key Philippine agencies including the Department of Justice, the Bureau of Immigration, and the Philippine National Police taking part.
Discussions focused on cross-border criminal investigations, consular notifications, detainee visitations, and the protection of overseas citizens. Moving forward, both sides plan to strengthen information sharing and law enforcement coordination, specifically targeting syndicates that exploit cross-border personnel movement for fraud and trafficking.
This cooperation highlights a regional transition from isolated domestic raids to bilateral and multilateral crackdowns. For expatriates and job seekers traveling or living between the Philippines and Indonesia, immigration screenings and visa scrutiny could become noticeably tighter as cross-border loopholes continue to close.
