According to a report by Red Star News, a man surnamed Zhang from Rui'an, Zhejiang Province, was detained and served a seven-year prison sentence for fraud before being released in late 2025. Upon his release, Zhang checked his financial accounts and discovered that over 500,000 yuan across his Alipay Yulibao, WeChat Pay balance, and bank cards had been transferred out during his detention and imprisonment.
Transaction records and bank statements revealed a scattered trail of fund movements. More than 470,000 yuan from his Yulibao fund was transferred into his bank card before flowing out to multiple personal Alipay accounts, loan repayments, and consumer spending platforms. Meanwhile, around 19,000 yuan from his WeChat balance was transferred directly to a WeChat account tied to the mobile phone number of an Officer Guo from the police department in Taigu, Shanxi Province.
When contacted by reporters on October 17, Officer Guo stated that he required organizational approval before making any personal comments and advised the media to visit his department in person for details. Currently, police in Rui'an, Zhejiang have formally filed a criminal case to investigate the alleged theft, while Zhang expressed hope that the truth behind the unauthorized transactions will be uncovered soon.
When criminal suspects are detained, their personal mobile devices, financial credentials, and payment tools are routinely confiscated and stored by investigating authorities. The fact that an individual's accounts could be accessed and emptied while he was in custody raises critical questions regarding procedural oversight and the custody of seized assets. The ultimate facts of the case remain subject to ongoing police investigations.
