According to Malaysian media reports on October 18, Johor police recently raided a luxury home in Iskandar Puteri, busting a call center allegedly running bogus investment scams. A total of five suspects aged between 18 and 41 were arrested on site, including three Malaysians, one Chinese woman, and one Indonesian woman.

The operation followed a familiar playbook. Investigations revealed the suspects were allegedly recruited through social media under the guise of customer relations specialists, earning around RM 3,000 a month. From inside the villa, they cold-called residents in Singapore, luring victims with promises of 100% to 300% returns, with elderly Singaporeans suspected to be their primary targets.

During the raid, officers seized electronic equipment valued at over RM 100,000. All five suspects have been remanded in custody as investigations continue.

The case is another reminder that scam call centers can hide inside upscale homes. According to figures released by Johor police, 9,897 scam-related investigation cases were recorded from January to September 2026 alone, involving losses of roughly RM 212.6 million, averaging around 37 scam reports received every day.
