On October 15, a joint task force consisting of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, the Anti-Cyber Scam Center police, Region 7 police, and related units raided two suspicious houses in Nong Lu village, Sangkhla Buri district of Kanchanaburi province. The properties had drawn regulatory scrutiny after showing abnormally high internet usage.
A search of the residences uncovered substantial transmission hardware, including radio communication gear, illegally laid fiber-optic cables, 10 Ethernet media converters, 5 high-performance routers, computers, accessories, and CAT5e network cables. Investigators also found that the suspects had tampered with electricity meters to illegally siphon and resell Thai electricity across the border into Myanmar to sustain operations there. Two primary suspects were apprehended during the raid, with formal investigations still underway.
Following earlier state-level cutoffs of official power and telecommunication links to Myanmar border compounds, shadow operators turned to clandestine local channels. Border residential properties were turned into transit nodes to run unauthorized fiber lines and resell stolen electricity. This joint raid signals that Thai enforcement has broadened from shutting down formal infrastructure to sweeping border village settlements, progressively closing off localized support hubs feeding cross-border illicit operations.
