On October 13, Thailand's Anti-Cyber Scam Center (ACSC) joined forces with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) to raid 27 locations across 11 provinces, including Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai. Officers arrested 39 suspects—comprising 30 Thais, eight Chinese nationals, and one Myanmar national—and seized assets worth over 500 million baht, including eight luxury properties, ten high-end vehicles, cash, USDT, luxury watches, and jewelry.
The turning point came from financial profiling targeting holders of Thailand Elite Visas (now Thailand Privilege Cards). Investigators flagged accounts tied to certain Chinese cardholders receiving direct transfers from fraud networks. Under interrogation, one Chinese suspect admitted to laundering at least 3 billion baht for senior partners operating in Poipet scam compounds in Cambodia since 2022.
The operation relied on an organized pipeline. On the front end, scammers baited targets through fake stock investment ads on Facebook, funneling them into LINE chat groups to download counterfeit apps. When victims tried to withdraw their bogus profits, they were trapped into paying extra service fees. Thai police have traced 13 corporate bank accounts linked to at least 74 cases with damages exceeding 173 million baht. The laundering cell then layered the funds through underground banking, ATM cash withdrawals, payment gateways, and USDT, before channeling the proceeds into purchasing or leasing luxury Thai real estate.
Thai authorities noted that ongoing crackdowns across the border have not eradicated these syndicates, but rather forced them to disperse. Many operatives have shifted from large-scale, walled compounds into standard commercial office buildings, private condominiums, and residential neighborhoods to remain under the radar.
With investigations widening to track down remaining accomplices, Thai police have pledged stricter scrutiny over long-term visa holders. When illicit capital infiltrates mainstream channels, it inevitably leads to tighter compliance checks for all foreign residents.
