Yesterday, October 16, Thai immigration police raided a luxury home in the Ramkhamhaeng area of Bangkok and arrested a 37-year-old Chinese national surnamed Wu. Wu is implicated in a cross-border money laundering network involving more than 2 billion Thai baht and 133 bank accounts. His primary role consisted of exchanging cryptocurrencies and foreign currencies for criminal organizations, alongside operating illegal visa services.

To evade authorities, Wu had disguised his movements by using forged license plates, repainting his car, and residing under false address documents. Official checks revealed that he had been overstaying his visa in Thailand for 3 years and 8 months. After going through legal proceedings in Thailand, he will be deported and formally handed over to Chinese authorities.

In recent years, Thai authorities have sharply intensified their crackdown on underground banking, crypto laundering, and visa overstayers linked to Chinese networks, alongside tighter cross-border law enforcement cooperation with Beijing. For Chinese nationals living in Thailand, this serves as another clear reminder to avoid unauthorized currency exchanges, proxy payments, lending bank accounts, or using non-official visa brokers, all of which carry serious legal consequences.
