On October 16, Cambodia's Ministry of Public Works and Transport officially signed contracts for the construction and supervision of a new bridge spanning the Mekong River. According to official announcements, the bridge will directly link Phnom Penh's Koh Norea with the Mekong Pier satellite city in Arey Ksat, Kandal Province, with construction slated to begin in early 2027.
Currently, commuters traveling between central Phnom Penh and the eastern riverbank rely heavily on ferries and existing road bridges, leading to regular congestion during peak hours. Authorities stated that the new crossing will upgrade cross-river transit and help relieve traffic jams in the capital. On the eastern bank, the Mekong Pier satellite city project is being developed by TP Moral Group, covering an area of 210 hectares.
While development across the eastern bank is gradually gaining momentum, major infrastructure projects in the region typically require several years to complete from groundbreaking to final commissioning. For foreign residents and investors assessing real estate or business opportunities in the area, keeping a realistic timeline in mind remains essential.
