Between October 15 and 16, a 30-member enforcement team from the Immigration Department conducted joint operations dubbed Ops Mahir and Ops Sapu. Officers raided eight locations, including private residences, terraced houses, and rented rooms. A total of 79 individuals were inspected, resulting in the arrest of 74 foreign nationals—comprising 45 men and 29 women. Among those detained were 63 Indonesians, 10 Chinese nationals, and one Cambodian.

Most notably, two of the targeted premises are suspected of being used as operational bases for online scams. Officers seized computers and mobile phones on-site to facilitate further investigations into potential cyber fraud. As of now, authorities have not disclosed detailed operational methods or specific profiles of the individuals tied to those two suspected premises.

Across both Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia, law enforcement continues to intensify crackdowns on immigration violations and hidden telecom fraud hubs. Such operations often hide in residential neighborhoods behind ordinary shared rentals. For foreigners living and working in Malaysia, including Chinese nationals, the takeaway is simple: keep visas and rental arrangements in order, and stay away from unexplained group housing.
