On October 15, security forces in Lashio, northern Shan State, raided a residential house in Group 19, Ward 12, busting a small den suspected of running online scam and gambling operations. Law enforcement seized laptops, mobile phones, and related equipment on site, arresting four suspects consisting of three men and one woman. Legal proceedings against the individuals are currently underway.
Images from the scene revealed an exceptionally crude work environment, with a few laptops placed on makeshift desks. This setup highlights the current reality in northern Myanmar: as massive fortified compounds are dismantled under persistent pressure, remaining syndicates have been forced into ordinary neighborhoods, operating as small cottage workshops with just a handful of staff and basic electronics to evade detection.
Operating out of residential units may lower visibility, but it also puts these small groups right under the neighbors' noses. As local security sweeps reach deeper into residential wards, the remaining room for these scattered hideouts continues to shrink.
