Police in Cianjur, West Java, recently raided a hidden villa in Cibadak village, arresting nine suspects operating an online gambling hub. Officers seized 46 mobile phones, laptops, and networking gear. Investigators revealed the team was running telemarketing and customer service for a gambling platform named KICAU99, with eight individuals reaching out to prospects via phone and WhatsApp to push deposits and one handling customer queries.
What stands out is the background of the workers. Several suspects admitted they had previously worked in online gambling operations in Cambodia. Upon returning to Indonesia, they were recruited by an operator identified as YN (alias J) to staff this localized outpost. The operation had been active for about three weeks, turning over an estimated 14 million rupiah daily. The coordinator, YN, managed to slip away during the raid and remains on the wanted list.
This bust highlights a shift across Southeast Asia's gray industries. As international pressure mounts on mega-compounds, experienced operators returning to their home countries often bring operational know-how back with them, establishing decentralized domestic hubs. Under Indonesian law, the suspects now face up to ten years in prison and fines of up to 10 billion rupiah, bringing their brief domestic venture to an abrupt close.
