Timor-Leste's Immigration Department, joined by multiple operational task forces, launched surprise raids across several entertainment venues in the Audian and Bairro Pité districts. A significant number of foreign female hostesses were detained on site during the sweep.

Most of those detained had entered the country on tourist visas but engaged in unauthorized commercial work in local nightlife venues. Timor-Leste has been seen by some as a new place to make quick money, but local authorities has little tolerance for visa violations once enforcement begins, usually resulting in detention and deportation.

The coordinated raids are expected to cast a chill over the capital's nightlife and entertainment sectors. For foreign nationals working locally, visa compliance remains a critical boundary, as the legal consequences quickly outweigh any short-term gains.
