On October 13, Thai border patrol forces in Mae Sot, Tak Province, intercepted 21 foreign nationals who had illegally crossed the border near Tha Kha Sue, right across the river from Myanmar's Myawaddy Shwe Kokko compound. The group included 14 Kenyans, 5 Indonesians, 1 Filipino, and 1 Ugandan. Following their detention, they informed Thai authorities that they had just escaped from a cyber fraud park across the border and were attempting to seek safety in Thailand.

During initial checks, officers found visible trauma on four individuals, suspected to be injuries from electric shocks and blunt force beatings. No contraband was found. The Thai military has transferred the entire group to Tak immigration police to process their unlawful entry and investigate whether they qualify as human trafficking victims.

Scam parks in Myawaddy have long globalized their recruitment, frequently trafficking English-speaking workers from Africa and Southeast Asia to target Western victims. As cross-river escapes persist, Thai security along the Moei River is tightening steadily. For foreign travelers and businesses operating along the border, the area has become exceptionally sensitive, where irregular movements trigger immediate detention and rigorous legal scrutiny.
