On October 12, the third China-Cambodia-Thailand Track II Dialogue, hosted by China Foreign Affairs University, convened in Shenzhen. Nearly a hundred former diplomats, researchers, and civil society representatives from the three nations gathered to discuss border stability under the framework of the Fuxian Consensus.
The discussions were divided into four concrete working groups: international law, economy and livelihood, public health and humanitarian assistance, and youth exchanges. The president of the Cambodian Scholars Association noted that technical proposals from previous rounds are making steady progress, while former Thai Foreign Minister Kasit said China has always been a good friend to both Cambodia and Thailand, and that its sincere push for peace matters a great deal to both governments.
For cross-border traders and businesses operating along the frontiers, Track II diplomacy may not produce immediate policy, but it sets the tone. Keeping border management and local livelihoods on the same agenda indicates that all sides remain invested in containing disputes and maintaining regional economic predictability.
