A court in Yuhuan, Zhejiang Province, recently finalized judgments against a 43-member cross-border telecom fraud gang, sentencing syndicate director Tan to 10 years in prison for his role in operations involving over 1.7 million RMB. The remaining 42 defendants received varying prison terms based on their involvement, and with no appeals filed, all sentences are now legally binding.
The group operated a classic investment trap from abroad. Posing as financial analysts, customer service reps, and regular stock traders, members hosted live streaming courses and posted fabricated profit screenshots in chat groups to lure victims into depositing funds onto a rigged platform. Once substantial sums were transferred, the gang abruptly shut down withdrawals and liquidated the setup.
Investigators traced cross-border entry-exit logs and money laundering flows, dismantling the network and recovering over 1 million RMB for victims. Tan, who handled recruitment and structural management, fully confessed alongside his cohorts under the weight of financial evidence.
For mid-sized fraud schemes, the investigative pathways targeting immigration footprints and financial trails have become increasingly tight, leaving little room for overseas operators to remain hidden once their networks are mapped.
