Thailand's Central Investigation Bureau arrested 33-year-old Nai Gyoi on October 6 in Phop Phra district, Tak Province. Investigators revealed that his syndicate lured Chinese nationals into Thailand with promises of lucrative employment, only to kidnap them, blindfold and bind them with tape, and smuggle them across the border into Myanmar to be sold into forced labor at scam syndicates.
The bust stemmed from an incident on September 6, when Thai police intercepted a suspicious vehicle near the border. Officers found an abducted Chinese national bound in the trunk and arrested two handlers, who subsequently named Nai Gyoi as the mastermind orchestrating the run.
Luring foreign job seekers into Thailand before hijacking them into Myanmar has long formed a brutal underground industry around Mae Sot. While the suspect denies all charges following his transfer to Mae Sot Police Station, the case underscores the persistent traps lurking along the border zone.
