In Cambodia, Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith, who's in charge of tackling online scams, has revealed that business parks linked to Senators Ly Yong Phat and Fu Guo An are under investigation. This marks the first time the government has publicly acknowledged their connection to these probes.
Both Ly Yong Phat and Fu Guo An are senators from the Cambodian People's Party with vast business empires. They've been sanctioned by the U.S. over alleged ties to online fraud, though both deny the accusations. Ly Yong Phat has even publicly backed the government's efforts to combat scams, insisting on zero tolerance.
On the streets, this is all anyone's talking about. Ly Yong Phat's wealth comes mainly from sugar, casinos, and electricity, while Fu Guo An is involved in casinos and banking. Both have been named by the U.S. for allegedly using human trafficking in online scam operations.
