There was some notable movement down in Takeo Province this morning. A delegation led by China’s Vice Minister of Public Security, Yang Weilin, made a special visit to the Bati Deportation Center. Representatives from Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration, including Keo Sarin and You Sarun, Director of the Department of Investigation and Procedure Enforcement, accompanied the team throughout the tour.
Takeo sits a good stretch away from the bustling markets of Phnom Penh, but folks running small stalls or working local jobs always pay close attention to whatever happens at the deportation center. When you are far from home trying to build a living, bad security is the one thing everyone fears most. Chatting along the streets and outside shopfronts, people just hope the criminal elements get cleared out so honest businesses can run in peace.
During the visit, both sides spoke highly of the cooperation between Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior and China’s Ministry of Public Security in tackling cross-border crime and maintaining social order. For those who traveled south to make a go of it in a foreign land, peace of mind is the whole bottom line. When law and order hold firm, everyday working folks can focus on earning a living, keeping up with the rent, and going about their daily lives without worry.
