Touch Sokhak, deputy spokesperson for Cambodia's Ministry of Interior, recently shared that over the past year or so, local police have worked on a large number of joint cases following requests from the Chinese Embassy and the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation mechanism. The crackdown targeted telecom fraud, illegal detention, and transnational crime, successfully rescuing multiple victims along the way.
The operations have been sweeping. To bring suspects back home to face trial, the Chinese side arranged hundreds of charter flights, repatriating tens of thousands of Chinese nationals linked to fraud schemes. Cambodian officials said the bilateral Law Enforcement Coordination Office and the Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Cooperation Center continue to work closely together, with plans to deepen cooperation further to root out cross-border cybercrime.
For the ordinary people here—the ones running tea stalls, managing small trades, or doing an honest day's work—nothing hurts more than shady dealings ruining the neighborhood for everyone else. Making a living down south is never easy. People hustle every day just to pay their rent and electricity on time, set up their stalls, and run their business, all for a bit of peace and safety. As the bad elements get cleared off the streets, those simply trying to work hard and build a quiet life can finally breathe a little easier.
