Another late-night incident broke out on the streets of Phnom Penh yesterday evening. A group of Chinese men who had been drinking got into a heated argument, lost their tempers, and beat up a local Cambodian worker, leaving him injured.
The scuffle took place in Chak Angre Krom commune, over in Meanchey district—an area lined with evening roadside stalls and eateries where people usually drop by for a drink to unwind after work. What was supposed to be a casual night out turned ugly when the men let the alcohol get to their heads, flew off the handle, and turned their anger on a local staff member who was just trying to do his job.
Local media reported that authorities are still investigating what sparked the row and following up on police action against those involved. Anyone who has spent time in Phnom Penh knows that booze-fueled violence late at night never ends well. Harming an innocent worker who is just making a living will only guarantee that the law catches up with you sooner or later.
