On September 15, the family of a young Chinese man named Li Er, from Baoding, Hebei province, reached out to popular Douyin anti-scam streamer Tianhan Anti-Fraud to help retrieve him from a local compound.
The company arranged for property security to drive Li Er out for a pickup at Wa Mei Tha. However, due to poor phone signal in the area, both sides agreed to move the handoff location to the nearby DKBA headquarters.
Once the young man was in the rescue vehicle and the agreed payment was transferred, the car pulled away. But just five minutes into the drive, a vehicle from the compound chased them down and blocked their path.
The rescue driver presented the transfer receipt, but the pursuers insisted the money was never received. Supported by armed military property guards, they forcibly dragged Li Er out of the car and took him back. When the family tried to reach the compound manager to find out what went wrong, they discovered they had already been blocked.
The snatch-back sparked a heated confrontation at DKBA headquarters late that night. Compound representatives dug in, insisting they never got paid, while the family held clear chat logs and payment receipts showing the money went through. Blaming the company and local armed guards for pulling a double-cross, the family demanded a proper resolution, threatening to take the entire story to the media if the young man is not safely released.
