Riding my motorbike past V2 Restaurant in Mean Chey earlier, I saw a row of big buses pulled up right along the curb. The street was lined with uniformed military police and the atmosphere was tense—every passing motorbike slowed down, riders twisting their throttles to peek inside.
Judging by the setup, it looks like another off-the-grid scam operation nearby just got raided. When the big buses show up right outside, it usually means they're about to haul away a whole crew. Around here, some of these places look like completely ordinary storefronts, but once the doors are shut, who knows what's actually running inside.
The harsh afternoon sun was baking the asphalt, bringing out that sharp reek of exhaust. Even the sugarcane juice vendor next door was leaning out to watch the spectacle. Live in town long enough and you see scenes like this pop up every now and then—everyone around here knows the drill.
