The US Embassy in Phnom Penh announced today that newly appointed Ambassador Christopher Anderson has officially been sworn in back in the US by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Anderson comes to Phnom Penh with a solid background, having previously served as a US Army veteran before packing his bags for Cambodia.
According to the embassy, Anderson’s priorities are pretty clear. Aside from boosting bilateral trade, investment, and security cooperation, a major focus will be teaming up with Cambodia to crack down on the transnational scam networks that have cost people in the US and around the world dearly. Over the last few years, these online scams have ruined countless lives and emptied out people's life savings.
People around town have been buzzing about the appointment, wondering if a former military man can shake things up. One thing is for sure: local players across the board are keeping a close eye on the Americans to see just how far this new push will go.
