Starting today, the rules for going to Thailand have changed. That 60-day visa exemption we were promised has been cut right in half down to 30 days. Whether you are heading to Bangkok for street food or chilling out in Chiang Mai, you are going to have to watch the calendar a bit closer.

If you cross into Thailand overland, you can only do it twice a year. Coming in by air does not have that hard cap of two times, but if you keep bouncing back and forth between the two countries too often, immigration officers at the counter are going to start giving you a second look and asking a few questions.

Local reports say the clock starts ticking the moment your feet actually hit the ground, no matter how many days you booked your hotel for. Stamps you got before this still stand, but anyone coming in from now on still needs to fill out their digital arrival card properly.
