On September 13, there was a tragic incident in the Java Sea involving a passenger ferry named "Virgo Transport 8." The ferry had set off from Surabaya, heading to Banjarmasin, but ran into severe weather along the way, with waves reaching nearly 3 meters high.
At the time, there were 243 people on board, including 213 passengers and 30 crew members, along with 89 vehicles. Around 2 AM, the ferry lost contact, and it was later discovered that it had capsized. So far, rescue teams have recovered 6 bodies and rescued 108 individuals, but 129 people are still unaccounted for.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with the Indonesian authorities deploying naval ships, rescue boats, and helicopters to find the missing. Officials have noted that the weather and sea conditions are complicating the rescue efforts, making the situation even more distressing.
