Just saw a really distressing distress call coming out of Shwe Kokko in Myanmar, where over 400 people are trapped and unable to leave. They didn't go there by choice—their freedom of movement has been completely locked down, living conditions are terrible, and they are constantly facing threats and abuse. They don't have any political demands; right now, their only thought is just staying alive, getting their freedom back, and making it safely home.
The cry for help even included precise GPS coordinates: 17°08'26.0"N 98°15'51.4"E. Among those trapped are Indian citizens alongside other victims, and they are still hanging on by a thread, waiting for real action and rescue. The victims are urgently calling on the Indian government, media, and relevant organizations to step in, investigate, and take every possible diplomatic and humanitarian measure to get them out. This isn't some old news from the past—people are still suffering in there right now.
Down here at the local teashop, the guys running moto-taxis at the next table occasionally chat about what is going on across the border. In the smoky haze of the night market barbecue stalls, whenever people bring these things up, they just shake their heads and sigh. The streets look calm enough, but just across the mountains and rivers, behind those locked corrugated iron doors and rental rooms, who knows how many people are gripping their phones and praying for rescue. Let's just hope this time, the outside world actually hears them and pulls them out of that nightmare.
