He mentioned that from 2022 up until May this year, Malaysian authorities have investigated a staggering 140,000-plus cyber fraud cases. That number alone is pretty shocking, and the big focus is really on cracking down hard on those cross-border scammers. Actually, Malaysia and China already renewed an agreement back in June last year. This means they'll keep working together to fight transnational crime all the way until 2034. It's not just cyber scams; illegal gambling, smuggling – all that stuff is covered. You know, a lot of the foreign workers here, they work so hard just to send money back home, and these scammers are their worst nightmare.
Since that agreement was signed, both sides have really tightened up their cooperation – sharing intel, coordinating operations. The whole point is to work together and bust those cross-border scamming dens. Just to be clear though, that 140,000-plus figure? That's what Malaysia investigated on its own, not all of it was done jointly with China. You hear people talking about it everywhere – grabbing supper at a roadside stall after a late shift, everyone's saying how these scammers have so many new tricks these days, it's almost impossible to keep up.
