Things haven’t been very peaceful lately over in Bavet, right by the border. A few days ago, local police got a tip-off from residents reporting some shady activity around an empty building in Sangkat Bavet. When officers went to check it out, they caught five Cambodian men red-handed inside, busy stripping electrical wiring using wire cutters, saws, and hammers.
The cops searched the place and found a messy haul: the stolen wires and tools, a bunch of mobile phones, and three motorcycles. Worst of all, they also turned up 10 packets of suspected drugs along with drug-taking paraphernalia. All five men failed their drug tests on the spot, and to top it off, three of them already had criminal records.
The suspects, along with the seized gear and drugs, have now been handed over to the authorities for legal action. Neighbors walking past the vacant building have been shaking their heads, saying that these days you don't just have to worry about getting robbed—these addicts will tear apart anything they can get their hands on just to score drug money.
