First, to be clear: there was a problem at Pailin Provincial Prison. Because there were serious violations in prison management, and because a video of violent clashes among inmates spread again on social media, the matter caused quite a stir. Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Su Suka, subsequently decided to suspend Pailin Provincial Prison warden Gao Ke'e along with three other management officials.
An official confirmed that the video in question was filmed in June 2026. After it surfaced, public attention surged at once, and people outside were all watching closely to see how this prison was being run. By this point, it was no longer just about the conflict inside the prison; more importantly, management problems had been brought into the open.
On September 8, the authorities officially appointed Aiji as acting warden of Pailin Provincial Prison, putting him fully in charge of prison management. In other words, the original management team has been suspended for now, and the new appointee has stepped in to take over the prison’s affairs.
People here do not usually talk about places like prisons every day, but once a video starts circulating online, whether on the street, at tea stalls, or by the roadside where motorcycles are parked, someone will always casually ask: what exactly happened inside, and how did it get to the point that even the warden was suspended?
