Around 11 PM on September 1, things suddenly got loud at an apartment along Arbi Road in Kuching—not for a good reason, but because police raided a scam den. The group had been hiding inside tapping away at screens, running love scams targeting people outside Malaysia. In the end, eight people aged 21 to 26 were hauled away.

The group of eight included two local men, a local woman, and five foreign men. When the police searched the flat, they seized a stash of laptops and mobile phones. Local media reported that the syndicate had been operating out of the apartment for a while, spending their days scheming up romance scams to fleece overseas victims.

The following morning, the eight suspects were brought to the Kuching Magistrate's Court, where a judge granted a four-day remand order. Police are still digging deeper to see if a bigger syndicate is pulling the strings behind this crew.
