Phnom Penh City Hall said it will tighten traffic control in commercial districts from Monday next week. The aim is to ease the morning rush.
Heavy vehicles will be barred from some boulevards between 7 and 9 a.m. to reduce jams outside schools and markets. Trucks must use the ring road during those hours.
Vendors at Central Market welcome smoother streets but want a clear unloading lane in the afternoon. Some shops worry that morning deliveries will slow down.
Traffic police will add checkpoints and use cameras to record violations. Drivers who break the rules can be fined under the national traffic law.
Residents can check a temporary road-closure map on the City Hall website. Signs will also go up at major junctions in advance.
