Police in Kampong Speu’s Samraong Tong district busted an illegal Apong dice game on Friday after raiding a secluded coconut grove in Peith Sla village. A joint force of district criminal police, anti-drug officers, and local commune police swept into the private plot—owned by 47-year-old local resident Sim Vansen—and caught seven gamblers red-handed as they crowded around placing bets.
The suspects, aged between 25 and 42, were identified as Phein Sophea, Sim Phany, Ern Sophia, Yin Sao, Kan Phana, Nu Det, and Chhea Mao. At the scene, officers seized an Apong betting mat, four mobile phones, and a black Honda Dream C125 motorbike bearing local Kampong Speu license plates.
Deep in the rural countryside, thick coconut groves offer cool shade and easy cover, making them a favorite retreat for pop-up gambling rings trying to stay off the radar. District police said the case report has been completed, and all seven suspects, along with the confiscated evidence, have been handed over to the Kampong Speu Provincial Police Headquarters for further legal action.
