This afternoon at the Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh, the Cambodian Red Cross held a straightforward handover ceremony. On behalf of President Bun Rany, Secretary-General Pum Chanthyny handed over a check for 100,000 US dollars to Chinese Ambassador Wang Wenbin. The funds were transferred through official banking channels to support communities affected by recent flooding in China.
Local media noted this is the second time this year the organization has donated this amount. Back in August, they sent the same sum through the International Red Cross to help disaster-hit areas near the China-Nepal border. Ambassador Wang recalled that when Tbong Khmum province was hit by floods earlier, embassy staff visited affected families door-to-door to hand out 30,000 riels in relief money each, pointing out that both sides always look out for one another.
Beyond the financial aid, the two sides also discussed practical cooperation. The Cambodian Red Cross currently runs emergency response networks across all 25 provinces and municipal capitals, and plans to partner with the Guangxi branch of the Red Cross Society of China to upgrade local first-responder training. Ambassador Wang immediately expressed the embassy's full support, promising to help bridge the connection and make it happen.
