Did you hear about what happened over in Svay Rieng recently? Two young guys from Vietnam crossed the border to run a sneaky little hustle, peddling illegal lottery tickets from back home.

It all came to an abrupt end on a Saturday morning, just after 8:30 AM, when immigration officers and local police moved in and nabbed them on the spot. Authorities identified the two as Ho Yang Keo and Le Vhn Hieu, both hailing from Vietnam’s Tay Ninh province. They had come in through the Sam Yong border checkpoint, likely hoping to make a quick buck. You see plenty of small street vendors around border towns, but running an unregistered foreign lottery is crossing the line.

Officers confiscated all their tickets right then and there, and the pair were sent straight back across the border to Vietnam. This kind of thing pops up quite a bit in border cities—there’s always someone trying to look for a loophole. But Cambodian authorities are pretty strict about these things. If you get caught, you get deported, simple as that. At the end of the day, it's just better to earn an honest living than to try these shady shortcuts.
