Things have been heating up again in Bavet. Local officials led a large team of police on a sudden raid at the Borey RT Apartment in Bavet town’s Tabet village, a spot where motorbikes usually buzz back and forth without anyone suspecting what was hidden inside.
Officers combed through the buildings, checking 48 foreigners—including Chinese and Vietnamese nationals—who all had valid passports and visas. In the end, though, 10 Vietnamese nationals were taken away for suspected involvement in online scams. Authorities also seized a haul of equipment from the scene: 12 phones, 12 computers, and 10 passports.
The 10 suspects were hauled off to the provincial police headquarters’ anti-tech crime department for further questioning. Locals on the street are hardly surprised by these sudden crackdowns anymore; before the heat from the parked police bikes even faded, the cruisers had already whisked the suspects away.
