At around 9:30 AM on September 12, a heavy truck loaded with cement and carrying a Phnom Penh license plate overturned on National Road 48.
The truck was heading from Dara Sakor toward Koh Kong provincial town. According to local police, the vehicle was moving at a fast clip down a sloping section of the road in Koh Kong district when the driver lost control. The truck smashed into the median barrier and flipped onto its side, spilling cement bags and auto parts across the roadway.
Two people on board suffered minor injuries. One received first aid at the scene, while the other was sent to the hospital for observation and treatment. Realizing the trouble he had caused, the driver bolted immediately and remains at large.
Regular users of National Road 48 know that the route features plenty of winding mountain stretches and steep grades, making it a hotspot for accidents involving speeding or overloaded trucks. Motorists and car drivers navigating these sections are always advised to exercise extra caution.
