Anyone carrying a national ID card starting with "13"—issued in Shan State—is especially vulnerable to being picked up under suspicion of links to scam operations. Nobody quite knows what is driving this sudden turn of events, so people are quietly warning each other to tread carefully whenever they step outside.
Folks on the ground are keeping a close watch on where the stops are set up. Right now, active checkpoints have been spotted at four main locations: about one kilometer straight past KBZ Bank 2 heading toward Yatai; just outside Jetty 1; along the road coming from Yatai into Myawaddy town; and at the traffic light intersection near the logistics border gate. Whether you are hauling goods on a motorbike or running ordinary errands, going through these points means facing strict searches.
