Early on the morning of the 21st, chaos broke out right outside the main gate of Jinshui Park in Sihanoukville’s Chinatown. A crowd of workers marched out into the middle of the road, blocking traffic and shouting for their boss to hand over their unpaid wages.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said the company owner is also Chinese. The workers claimed they haven't been paid in months. After confronting management multiple times with zero results, desperation finally drove them to take to the street together and shut down the road to demand their money.
On streets usually thick with motorbike exhaust and the greasy smoke of roadside food stalls, these workers are just trying to earn a living. Busting their backs under the blazing sun all day and heading back to cramped rented rooms at night, anyone would snap after months of working for nothing.
