Thai police nabbed a 31-year-old Chinese man named Yu in Chonburi yesterday. He's believed to be a big player in laundering money for overseas gambling websites. This group has been at it since 2018, with over 60 people working under him.
They've been pretty crafty, managing over 6,000 Alipay and WeChat accounts and using cryptocurrency to move money around. The total laundered is around 1 billion baht. Local media reported that the police acted on a warrant from China.
Yu has now been handed over to immigration authorities and is set to be sent back to China. People on the street are saying these folks are bold to pull such stunts in Thailand. Locals aren't too happy about it, feeling it casts a bad light on the area.
