Myanmar authorities are clamping down hard on corporate fronts linked to cyber fraud. According to local media reports on September 19, the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) has officially blacklisted four companies after an investigation by the Ministry of Home Affairs caught their directors moonlighting as scam operators and underground crypto brokers.

Instead of running legitimate businesses, the directors were secretly tied to "pig-butchering" scam networks. They acted as illicit money changers, swapping Myanmar kyat for Tether (USDT) to help cybercrime syndicates wash their dirty cash.

The four blacklisted entities include Grand Myanmar Empire (GME) Co., Ltd. in Mayangone Township, Silverdale Co., Ltd. in Dawbon Township, Golden Shah Co., Ltd. in Botahtaung Township, and Kyaw Kyaw Htun Co., Ltd. Four individuals connected to these firms were also named and barred from ever holding directorships again.

Underground currency trading has grown rampant in recent years. In local tea shops and neighborhood eateries, low-key conversations about swapping USDT and moving funds off the books are a common backdrop. All it takes for some of these illegal exchanges to operate is a rented flat and a few network cables.

With investigations still underway, local media say this high-profile crackdown is already sending ripples through the shadows, leaving illicit brokers operating out of township back alleys looking nervously over their shoulders.
