Recently, there have been a lot of arrests of foreigners in Vietnam, especially in Ho Chi Minh City, with many of those detained being Chinese nationals. It seems authorities are tracking people through passport information provided during hotel and rental registrations.
Life inside isn't easy—detainees have to pay for their own food and essentials. On the 15th, three young men from Guizhou were picked up in District 7, just after arriving from Cambodia. If their friends see this, it would be great if they could send some money to help them out, as things are tough.
Once arrested, it usually takes at least three to four months before they can be deported. Another person, known as "The Professor" from Zhangping, Longyan in Fujian, was taken to the immigration office on the 16th. He used to run a Chinese restaurant called "March 3" in District 7.
A word of caution: be careful about where you register your passport information in Vietnam to avoid any trouble.
