In Mandalay, the police have really outdone themselves by busting a cross-border jewelry scam operation. They nabbed 28 people from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Myanmar. The ringleader is a Chinese national named Chen Xiaodai.
These folks were quite crafty. They rented a place and started live-streaming, pretending to hold raffles to sell fake jade. They claimed winners would get raw jade stones but then asked for shipping and tax fees. Once they got the money, they vanished. Their rented house and jewelry setup turned into a scam hub.
The police seized a lot of stuff—over 500 phones, more than 30 computers, and some fake jade. Apparently, the phones were smuggled in from Laos. Now, all these people are in custody, and Myanmar authorities are interrogating them. Looks like they're in for a tough time.
