A gold shop in Dak Lak province, central Vietnam, nearly got cleaned out this morning by a pair of foreign thieves with a textbook distraction routine.
While one kept the owner busy chatting up front, the other slipped around to pop a display case, swiping three gold bracelets worth a combined total of over 200 million Vietnamese dong. But the owner spotted them right away and started yelling. Panicked, the thieves dropped the bracelets, which tumbled straight to the floor. They didn't even stop to grab them, just bolted outside, jumped into a waiting car, and slammed on the gas.
Local police moved fast after getting the call. Less than an hour after the incident, officers intercepted the getaway vehicle on National Highway 1D in neighboring Gia Lai province. There were four foreign suspects inside, and not a single one got away. They are currently being interrogated as police dig deeper into the case.
Anyone running a business around here knows that while gold shops turn a good profit, they are always on the radar of opportunists. Stepping up in broad daylight to pull a stunt like that either means you are desperate or completely clueless. Leaving the loot behind and getting busted in under an hour? These four are definitely looking at some solid jail time.
