Late in the night on September 11, just before 2:00 AM, the Nonthaburi Police Station received an emergency call reporting that a 28-year-old tourist from Hong Kong had fallen from a local hotel. He was found lying on the ground near the main entrance, and by the time rescue workers arrived, he had already passed away.
The man was identified as Chan Shing Lam. He had checked into the hotel late last month and was scheduled to check out the following day. Just over half an hour before the incident, he came down to the front desk to ask for a pen and paper, telling the staff he needed to write something down. After getting them, he headed back up to his room. About thirty minutes later, staff heard a loud crash of breaking glass, ran outside, and found he had fallen to the ground.
Hotel staff told police that the young man had previously complained about being shaken down by a massage worker who had extorted all his money. The person had even brazenly told him to go ahead and call the police if he dared, though he never ended up doing it. With so many shops and nightlife spots along the streets, incidents like this happen, and local police are still investigating the exact cause of the fall.
