Min Aung Hlaing, the one in charge over in Myanmar, has been in Cambodia these past few days. He was only here for two days, from September 11th to 12th. Prime Minister Hun Sen himself showed up and rolled out the red carpet, giving him the full VIP treatment.
Word on the street is that PM Hun Sen hosted him in his capacity as acting Head of State. This kind of state visit is a big deal, not just some casual dinner invitation. They probably just talked about stuff between the two countries. What exactly was discussed? Us regular folks won't ever hear the details.
Normally, the streets here are already buzzing, and the motorbike exhaust fumes are pretty thick. During times like this, some roads might get temporarily closed off to make way for the motorcade. For us ordinary people, it just means another topic to chat about at the coffee shop, or even worse traffic jams during rush hour. Local media will probably cover it, but for us just trying to make a living here in Phnom Penh, we're more concerned about whether the price of rice noodles will go up tomorrow.
