The Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Cooperation Center and the Yunnan Police Academy kicked off a specialized training program on tackling new types of crime on September 4. Wang Gang, deputy secretary-general of the center, and Du Tao, vice president of the academy, both turned out for the opening ceremony.
The first cohort brings together 20 law enforcement officials from Myanmar. The sessions are focused on figuring out better ways to handle increasingly complex emerging crimes, which have grown harder to pin down as syndicates constantly change their tactics.
Cross-border training programs like this are a familiar sight in the region, where it is common to spot visiting law enforcement officers from different countries on the streets or catching up over tea. Agencies across the board are looking for fresh, more effective approaches to keep up.
