Haiphong police announced on September 8 that officers cracked down on September 4 and 5, arresting two Chinese nationals wanted by police in China who had fled to the port city to lie low.
The two suspects are 44-year-old Chen Liang, who was wanted for fraud, and 48-year-old He Yongjun, who is accused of running an illegal gambling operation. Both men have now been handed over to Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security for deportation procedures.
According to the Haiphong Immigration Police Department, this is far from an isolated case. In the third quarter of 2026 alone, local police have already picked up four fugitives wanted by China, showing that authorities are keeping a tight grip on security behind the scenes.
