Cambodia's Permanent Mission to the United Nations announced on October 7 that starting October 3, the country has completely ceased attaching physical visa stickers to travelers' passports, including the special K-class visas for foreign nationals of Cambodian descent, switching entirely to a digital visa issuance system. Paper visas issued prior to October 3 will remain valid until their expiration dates, so there is no immediate rush to replace them.

The official objective behind the transition is to modernize public and consular services. For expatriates and business travelers frequently shuttling in and out of Phnom Penh or Sihanoukville, the most immediate perk is saving passport space, sparing frequent flyers from having their blank pages rapidly consumed by bulky stickers.

However, moving all visa records entirely online also establishes a tighter and more transparent digital footprint. The traditional grey areas that once relied on manual paperwork or physical processing at border checkpoints are steadily being phased out as the backend system goes fully digital.
