On October 5, Turkey's Ministry of the Interior reported the results of a 5-day special cybercrime operation spanning 61 provinces. Police detained a total of 547 suspects, with courts ordering 155 remanded into custody and placing 183 under judicial control measures. The sweep was coordinated by the Cyber Crimes Department (EGM), the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK), and provincial prosecutor offices.
The crackdowns primarily targeted online fraud, illegal gambling operations, and illicit fund routing. According to investigators, suspects defrauded victims through deceptive social media ads for property, vehicles, and fake promotional payments, while others ran or marketed illegal gambling websites and facilitated money transfers. Several suspects were also implicated in unauthorized cyber intrusions into corporate and government portals.
Covering 61 provinces, the operation demonstrates a notable escalation in Turkey's efforts to dismantle online fraud syndicates and unregulated gambling networks.
