According to a report by local outlet The Pakistan Connect on October 20, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) launched a sweeping crackdown against online financial fraud across Islamabad. The report stated that around 200 Chinese nationals were arrested in the operation, which began with a targeted raid on a suspected call center in the I-9 Industrial Area before expanding to multiple locations across the capital.

According to the report, officers seized laptops, servers, and computer hard drives, which will help investigators examine the suspected fraud activity. Authorities are working to verify the identities, organizational hierarchies, and individual roles of those detained. However, publicly available details have not yet disclosed the total financial figures involved, victim counts, or transaction flows, and it remains unconfirmed whether everyone arrested was directly involved in the suspected fraud.

As regulatory scrutiny tightens across Southeast Asia, some gray-industry operations may have moved toward South Asia, but this raid suggests the room there is shrinking too. Following the raids, there is talk that some workers in the area are attempting to rapidly clear out, and the full fallout is still unfolding.
